Gounod Waltz from Faust Stereo,
Very rare and desirable. In the thousands of classical LP's I have seen, I have only ever seen this LP once, here it is. NO Buy It Now assigned like my other auctions as value is hard to ascertain, one available online in UK with minor tics for 150GBP, so I leave this one upto you bidders to decide.
Description detail more below, but this has some hairline scuffs and a couple of big clicks from invisible to naked eye dirt/damage on Mascagni side 1 and light tic from hairline scratch track 4 side 1
This LP fully cleaned and test played prior to listing, also treated with 'LAST' RECORD CLEANER AND PRESERVATIVE.
Aussie dollar has crashed over last 2-3 months, down 20% on most other currencies, that makes my AUD auctions real bargains at the moment, because I'm still starting auctions and setting prices as I always have at what I am happy to sell for in AUD, that means you are the benefactors of the exchange rate drop.
CONDITION (summary, more detail further down)
LP is very clean looking for its age,AND GAVE the usual intermittant pops DURING TEST PLAYING. I CAN ONLY SEE A VERY FEW NON SOUNDING PAPER SCUFFS and one section during Orpheus that has a very light repetitive pip during early part of Orpheus in the underworld, although it stops happening before the well known 'Can-Can' dance starts .
No sign of rotational spindle marks.
FULLY TEST PLAYED .
I try to test play as best as I can all my auction items that start for more than 20AUD per disc.
WAX CODE SIDE 1 2YVH 46-2
SIDE 2 2YVH 45-3
Hopefully you can see one of the stampers on the supersize photo's,
Check out my other items! including LP rarities Auctioned through this week
Condition
I have supplied 6 super size photo's of various aspects, it is NEARLY 50 yrs old (1960's pressing)after all, but specific areas of small damage, if any, are as follows If it wasn't for the two big consecutive clicks in side one I would have been grading this at Excellent Minus, but read on......
SIDE ONE Has a few paper scuffs in various parts visible under strong light. and then I played it after cleaning, a few intermittant pips and tics, nothing too distracting, then I heard two big clicks followed by two small tics, and couldn't see anything at that point, UNTIL YOU GET OUT A 10X MAGNIFYING GLASS to find out why there are two BIG CLICKS FOLLOWED BY TWO QUIETER CLICKS IN MASCAGNI. Looks like 2 grains of dirt stuck in two grooves, My rigorous cleaning can't remove them, better luck to you, needle with 1.5 grams headshell weight does not skip tracks (on my turntable anyway) Track 4 has the most repetitive quiet pip from a hairline scratch/scuff. Interestingly if I change headshell to a Shure pickup, it almost disappears(??)A few paper scuffs otherwise. Sounds like its been played only a few times before I test played it, yes there is odd pops and tics but scattered and few and far between, even the run in and run off areas are fairly quiet.
SIDE TWO as per side one much cleaner looking, EXCEPT FOR PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED very quiet repetitive pips in start of Orpheus, can just hear it during an early quiet passage with three consecutive orchestral solo's by first flute, then oboe then cello. If it was during a multiple instrument passage I don't think you would know they were there. Run in and run out areas are quiet and damage free.
Record came to me obviously cared for. However I HAVE cleaned it with a Knosti record cleaner, then treated with LAST "power cleaner" and LAST "record preservative" (said to protect from playing wear for up to 200 'plays'). Most audiophiles such as yourselves are probably already using this or similar, I have just saved you the time and expense.
COVER Condition
Excellent, Lamination intact ,no ring wear, but It has some mild dirt rubbed into the seam glue edges on back cover, and on the front edge where the lamination finishes (looks like line of dirt down front edge(see Photo)
The rear card is exceptionally well maintained, cardboard rubbing of the surface is very minimal, a little yellowing . on the unlaminated rear card.
A couple of creases in spline from flexing without a record inside, also a couple of creases in front where a thumb flexing the cover open to extract the record has put 3 crescent shaped creases in lamination.
Two opening edge corners only have very minor wear .
All glue down seams on the flipback cover are intact, (see photo of reverse of cover.)
Having just cleaned the LP so well, I am supplying a more modern archive quality sleeve with anti stat and no scratching properties. This is from the modern audiophile company Mobile Fidelity (MFSL) and is standard issue with their vinyl pressings. I WILL INCLUDE THE OLD SLEEVE AS WELL, IT IS THE EMI PLASTIC LINED paper in excellent non stained or discolored condition
