AVANT GARDE Vol. Three 6-LP BOX on DG KAGEL FERRARI NM
Various : AVANT GARDE VOLUME THREE SIX LP BOX SET (Deutsche Grammophon [GER] 2720 025)
Records are all Near Mint (our highest grade for an opened record); covers are Excellent to NM, with some minimal creasing and lamination bubbles here and there, but no tears, splits, etc. Box is Excellent with light wear, mostly at the edges (as usual). The Stockhausen, Kayn/Nono, and Foss/Hiller/Schwartz LPs have inserts. Great original copy of the third box set of Deutsche Grammophon's Avant Garde series, with six LPs, each in its own cover. These LPs were also released separately with the same cover designs and different catalog numbers.
1. MAURICIO KAGEL : Der Schall LP (Deutsche Grammophon [GERMANY] 2561 039)1968 composition for five players with 54 instruments (including "real" instruments as well as foghorn, spaghetti tube with trumpet mouthpiece, plastic tubing, garden hose, rubber bands, siren, bells, shells, antilope horn, telephone, etc), performed by the Kolner Ensemble fur Neue Musik (Edward H. Tarr, Vinko Globokar, Karlheinz Bottner, Wilhelm Bruck, and Christoph Caskel). 2. GYORGI LIGETI : II. Streichquartett / EARLE BROWN : String Quartet / WOLF ROSENBERG : III. String Quartets, performed by the Lasalle-quartett. 3. LUC FERRARI : Presque Rien No. 1 / Societe II LP (Deutsche Grammphon [GERMANY] 2561 041)
Presque Rien is electroacoustic; Societe is for piano, three percussionists, and 16 instrumentalists. 4. LUKAS FOSS: Paradigm / LEJAREN HILLER: Algorithms I, versions 1 & 2 / ELLIOTT SCHWARTZ: Signals LP (Deutsche Grammophon [GERMANY] 2561 042)
The Foss composition is for percussionist, electric guitar, and three other instruments: "All have notes to play and words to speak, whisper, or shout. Words are handled like notes." The Hiller composition is for computer; the Schwartz piece is for trombone, double bass, and voices. 5. KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN : Stimmung LP (Deutsche Grammophon [GERMANY] 2561 043)

One side of tape/electroacoustic material by Kayn, and one side of electronically treated voices and sounds by Nono.
