Description

Another rare and hard to find 1960s UK Jazz Stereo LP record from our private collection

"Affectionate Fink" by Harold McNair with Ornette Coleman's Sidemen. Very rare 60s UK Jazz LP

Island ILP 926. There is no matrix information on the run out but it is believed there was only a first pressing of this very rare and much sought after LP.   This was Harold McNair's first UK album as a leader. Note the incorrect spelling of McNair's name throughout and of Alan Branscombe's on the front cover. There are 6 tracks, 4 Standards, including "Here's That Rainy Day" which became a regular at McNair's gigs, a Brazilian tune and the title track, a Blues writen by McNair. McNair is in fine form, not overawed at all by the illustrious company. Multi-instrumentalist Branscombe (born in the town where I now live) was one of the most reliable musicians on the UK Jazz scene of the day and plays piano here. David Izenson (bass) who contributed 3 stunning solos and drummer Charles Moffett really drive things along.     Condition Vinyl - Excellent. Plays with no clicks or pops despite a very faint hairline scratch on side one, barely visible to the naked eye. The red on white labels featured on early Island LPs show very little evidence of play. Cover - The laminated front has a couple of creases, a scuff at the top edge (see photos) and a very slight one at the bottom edge. The matt reverse has the same two creases as the front, but the graphics and sleeve notes are clean and clear. Inner sleeve - The original inner is intact with some slight aging.

NB: Other rare LPs listed and soon to be listed
