From Nautilus Records, this is LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST
by THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, a beautiful 2-LP set in slick
gatefold, an audiophile pressing still SEALED in the original loose-fitting
wrap and in MINT condition. It is a difficult piece to locate and in this condition,
it is near impossible to find.
This set is considered by most critics to be one of the greatest live
albums in rock music history. In 2004, it was selected for preservation
in the Library of Congress, deemed to be "culturally, historically,
or aesthetically important" by the National Recording Registry,
a program designed to guard and maintain America's sound recording heritage.
Those of us who grew up listening to the Escorts, the Allman Joys, and Hour Glass
recall Duane Allman's evolution, how he quit high school to practice the 6-string,
how be became a master of the slide guitar and a statesman of electric blues.
Like Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman had a fluid quality to his playing, able to make
even the most impossible riffs appear effortless as if the guitar could be called
upon to express emotions that words could not convey.
We had no way of knowing this album would be his peak. We thought he had many
mountains still to climb and many more things to teach us about the guitar.
Duane died October 22, 1971, doing the thing he loved second-most -- riding his Sportster.
