Art Blakey on Blue Note 4003
This is the original deep-groove RVG-stamped “P”-pressing of Art Blakey “And the Jazz Messengers” on the West 63rd (no “INC”) labels of Blue Note BLP 4003. Other than a ½” inaudible handling mark at the beginning of Side 1, the playing surface is in near-new condition; typical inaudible storage splotching; perhaps played once. The laminated West 63rd cover (with the sans serif font) is also in extraordinary condition – immaculate throughout – with just ¼” lamination flake at the top of the opening and ¼” wear at the bottom of the spine. Personnel include Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Bobby Timmons, and Jymie Merritt.
