BEATLES Please Please Me 1ST UK MONO PRESS Black Gold Label DICK JAMES credit EX.
Original and very collectible 1st UK mono pressing of The Beatles debut LP “Please Please Me”.
Matrix Numbers - XEX 421-1N/XEX 422-1N
Mothers/Stampers - 1 L/1 O
MT tax code on side 2 near spindle hole
Original Black and Gold Parlophone labels with the Dick James credits.
Angus McBean photo credit at extreme bottom right of the Ernest J Day flip over sleeve.
Original Emitex poly lined inner.
Condition:
Vinyl - the vinyl is in EXCELLENT condition. It has a few very fine hairlines but nothing that can be felt or heard. Vinyl maintains its glossy appearance. The only deterioration in sound I can determine is some very very light crackle between some of tracks (not all), but this is genuinely minimal and quiet. There are no pops, clicks, skips or jumps or any other lessening of sound quality across the whole record. It really does sound superb.
Labels - the labels are very clean and have a nice shine to them still. One has a tiny mark, and some light wear around the centre hole (please see photos)
Outer Sleeve - The outer sleeve grades as VG. The original owner had sellotaped the edges in what appears to be a precautionary measure to prevent edge wear. The glue has been left behind on the sleeve. It should be possible to remove this from the front of the sleeve. It has the remnants of a sticker over the Parlophone logo on the front but this will easily be removed. It has a crease on the top left corner and wear including small 1cm tear to the opening edge. Rubbing to the corners. It’s free from seam splits and the title is readable on the spine. It also has a biro “tick” next to one track on the rear. There are no major splits, writing or tears, and on the whole it isn’t too bad, but is showing it’s age.
The original inner is EX- with some very light discolouration.
Overall this is a superb playable copy with the vinyl probably as good as you will find. It really does sound great and you won’t be disappointed with it.
