The second pressing, was issued from 1963 to 1965. Came out hot on the heel of the first press to correct the accreditation for the song Money which had wrongly been credited to Jobete, when in fact it should have been Dominion Belinda

Second presses are therefore more common. Stereo pressings however are certainly not common. One little anomoly is that the disc is housed in a third press sleeve, which was pressed in 1965. The only difference id the 3rd press sleeve has a smaller "stereo" wording on the top of the sleeve.

My guess is that there were still some 2nd press Lp's around when the newer sleeve went into production, and some were matched this way. The person I got this from asured me that the sleeve has been with the LP from the day she bought it

Laminated Front surface, and non laminated rear. The front is flat and clean. There are a couple of light laminate creases. One accross ringo's face, and a couple of thumb lines just inside the opening edge. The spine is flat and perfectly legible. The rear is very nice. The whiteness is only a little off colour, and the flipbacks perfect.

The Labels

Superb Yellow and Black Parolphone label. Proper 2nd press indicators, which are

• Parlophone Co Rim wording
• Dominion Belinda credit for Money
• Recording First published
• No"sold in the UK" statement

The labels are in superb condition.

There is no spindle hole wear at all, and this in itself is very rare. There are a few light spider lines, and my best estimate is that the record has had fewer than 15 plays lifetime

The Vinyl

Stunning looking Stereo example, has retained virtually all of its original sheen. there are a couple of really fine handling lines which do not sound out. Under intense illumination it is also possible to spot some near invisible and whispy hairlines.

In daylight the vinyl looks nmint

The Sound

The three tests I always run on any LP I list should give the buyer a great insight into the reproduction of the record.

Distortion Test:

Pushing the volume up when playing any LP will tell you a lot about the use the LP has had. For example it will show immediately if the groove has suffered any wear through having been subjected to a worn or damaged stylus, or indeed one that was too heavy and caused wear. many people confuse background noise from scratches, and lines with distortion from groove wear. they are very different, and in my opinion I can put up with the odd bit of crackle or light pop, but the sound of a worn record is unacceptable to me. The loud volume ensures that all this is detected because the vibration of the stylus is more pronounced at higher volumes.

This particular track is famous for its poor production, and it is near impossible to get a 100% perfect recording

Production Test:

Not so much of a test, but a report on the quality of the recording and the clarity of the sound

Absolute joy to hear this classic LP in true Stereo. Geaorge Martins superb mix enhances the quality sound. A real must both in Mono and Stereo

Unwanted Noise Test:

This concentrates on the noise in the run in groove, the linking groove between the tracks, background crackle, hisses, and pops. I wont mention jumps or sticking as I wouldn't list a record that did either. This is what you can expect to hear on your system, and along with the distortion test form the basis of my overall sound grading.

Silent run in groove to "It Wont Be Long", a great intoduction to this LP. The linking grooves are equally silent. There is no background noises, pops, or clicks, perhaps the veryy odd bit of static in places, but hardly at all.

The listener gets the full and proper reproduction all the way through the LP
