BLACK SABBATH - PARANOID VERTIGO SWIRL BIG BEAR SLEEVE!

Due to recent eBay silly rule changes, UK sellers are now FORCED to offer free shipping to UK buyers...given that the 1st class postage for a standard LP is £2.14, plus the packing costs of mailers and stiffeners, postage labels, packing tape etc - it easily costs at least £2.50 - £2.70 to post an LP. I believe in starting prices as low as possible to encourage bidders to buy. I always ship AT COST! (often below COST!). But I cannot possibly afford to sell an LP at £3.00 and ship for FREE to UK. Subtract the listing costs, eBay final value fees and Paypal fees and I am in a minus figure for the sale!!! eBay suggest I should absorb the shipping costs into a higher starting price. This is unfair to non-UK buyers as they still have to pay shipping costs.

Shipping costs for UK buyers - £2.50 (Royal Mail 1st Class)

Extra £0.70 for signed for delivery if you request it.

(Other countries shipping at bottom of listing)

BLACK SABBATH

PARANOID

6360 011 - VERTIGO

1970 UK VERY 1ST PRESS ON VERTIGO SWIRL

FULLY PLAY-GRADED! GREAT AUDIO THROUGHOUT, PLAYS RIGHT THROUGH WITH NO STICKS OR JUMPS.

VERY RARE 1ST ISSUE UNLAMINATED GATEFOLD - "JIM SIMPSON/BIG BEAR MANAGEMENT" CREDIT

1Y1/2Y1 MATRIX

SLEEVE CONDITION:

Non laminated gatefold sleeve, laminated sleeves are reissues. Excellent copy with no splits or graffiti. Minor wear/fading to front cover/back cover. Scratch to rear sleeve. Spine has some light wear but is still very legible. Very little wear to bottom and top edges. Inner gatefold is superb. No splits. The 1970s printing process on unlaminated covers means that they were very prone to wear and also faded with a greenish tinge. They were 'damaged' quite quickly so when it was reissued on the smaller swirl label, the sleeve was laminated on the front and rear.

SLEEVE SUMMARY: EX+

LABEL CONDITION:

Superb and unmarked but for light spindle traces. No graffiti.

Correct large swirl above spindle hole and VERTIGO below spindle hole - denotes a 1st press.

LABEL SUMMARY: EX++

INNER SLEEVE/INSERT CONDITION:

plain white

INNER SLEEVE/INSERT SUMMARY: EX+

VINYL CONDITION:

There is no substitute for an audio grading. Merely looking at vinyl can only give you a suggestion as to its playback quality. Visual gradings are not to be relied upon, as I know from personal experience having bought 'mint' vinyl from people (visually graded as 'mint'), only to get EX audio (or even worse!) when playing the vinyl. I therefore insist on playing everything I list (unless specifically stated in my listing). You can therefore be assured that the vinyl will sound every bit as good as I have described - please refer to my 100% feedback comments for the excellent feedback I receive.

SIDE 1 MATRIX:

6360011 1Y//1  420  1  2  4

Just a few light surface scratches. Plays very well throughout whole of Side 1. Easily VG+ for playback. No jumps or sticks, no loud pops (other than 2 pops on end of War Pigs) or repetitive clicks. Light crackle in between tracks, a little more audible on quieter musical sections. Lovely bass tone and separation. Only achievable on these original heavier pressings on quality vinyl!

SIDE 2 MATRIX:

6360011 2Y//1  420  1  1  9

A little better than side 1 with no loud pops, still has the crackle audible on the quieter sections. VG+

VINYL SUMMARY (SIDE 1/SIDE 2): VG+/VG+

Very nice very rare 1st issue. A mint one will cost you a fortune these days!

SHIPPING:

UK - 1st Class standard post - £2.50 (this is at cost, see above)

UK - 1st Class recorded - £3.20 (as above +70p for recorded)

Europe - £4.00

ROW - £6.50

Please wait for your final invoice for shipping costs to be included.

Many thanks.

Thank you for bidding and choosing to buy from me, your custom is appreciated. In return, please pay promptly, ideally within 48 hours of the auction closing. If you wish to bid on or purchase other items from me I will be happy to wait for your final payment unless there is likely to be a significant delay. In this instance I would prefer payment for your initial purchase and I will make any deductions for savings in shipping from your subsequent purchases. Please feel free to contact me for further clarification.

I prefer Paypal payments and will also accept cheques, postal orders, bankers drafts from UK purchasers. International buyers must use Paypal. Cash is not accepted from any buyers, unless UK buyers wish to collect their purchases in person.

I will be delighted to combine items for you to save on shipping costs. As an enthusiastic buyer myself, I know how important it can be to minimise shipping costs. Just let me know that you wish to purchase other items from me and I will happily provide an estimate for your shipping costs.

Selling on eBay is just a hobby for me, so I do have a day job which often may prevent me from packaging and shipping your item the same or next day. I invariably manage to ship the next day and within 48 hours at the latest of receiving your payment.

I pack items very securely to withstand heavy handed postal systems. Again, as a buyer myself, I know how frustrating it can be to receive a vinyl LP that arrives bent and creased due to insufficient packaging. If you require extra packaging to be even more protective, please bear in mind that this will add to the weight of the package and can therefore increase the cost of shipping over and above the standard quoted rate.

I'm an enthusiastic collector of vinyl myself (not a business) and often acquire several copies of the same LP to find the 'best' one for my collection. I have a large selection of vinyl to dispose of as time allows. Due to my insistence on audio grading everything, this adds a considerable amount of time to the listing process, which means I am only able to list a few items each week.

Please feel free to contact me to request whether I have a particular LP or single for sale as I will happily search my collection and list this for you if required.

All questions will be answered as quickly as time allows. Hopefully the majority of questions can be answered in the listing itself, otherwise, please contact me on anything relevant to the item about combined shipping costs or additional items I may have for sale.

On 09-Jan-10 at 10:56:42 GMT, seller added the following information:

HOW TO SPOT A VERY 1ST ISSUE! 1. first press: unlaminated gatefold sleeve with the Big Bear credit inside; label has the large swirl above spindle and VERTIGO below spindle. 2. second press: as above, but Big Bear credit removed due to Sabbath parting company with Jim Simpson just as record released; label is identical to above. 3. third press: laminated gatefold sleeve, inside is same as second press; label has smaller swirl, VERTIGO above spindle and Rodger Bain production credit in one line below album title on label. 4. fourth press: identical to third press but Rodger Bain production credit is now in two lines. 5. fifth press: last one on Vertigo was the spaceship press; sleeve identical to 3 and 4 and obviously the spaceship label - these are probably as rare as the very 1st Swirl issue, due to a very limited run before Sabbath moved to WWA and took the production rights for reissuing the back catalogue to WWA.
