A seminal work of collective improvisation from a quintet of free jazz masters. This is an original 1976 German first pressing of Barre Phillips' "Mountainscapes," a landmark album of atmospheric and adventurous music on the legendary ECM Records.
An Exploration in Sound & Texture
Led by the pioneering American double bassist Barre Phillips, "Mountainscapes" is a journey into sound, texture, and spontaneous creation. The album features a phenomenal international lineup, including British reed virtuoso John Surman (on bass clarinet, baritone sax, and synthesizer), American drummer Stu Martin, Austrian synthesist Dieter Feichtner, and a guest appearance from guitarist John Abercrombie on the final track. Together, they create eight sonic landscapes that are abstract, powerful, and deeply immersive.
The Legendary ECM Production
Recorded at the famed Tonstudio Bauer in Ludwigsburg by the peerless team of producer Manfred Eicher and engineer Martin Wieland, this album is a prime example of the pristine, spacious, and deeply organic "ECM Sound." This is an original Made in W. Germany first pressing, identified by the 'Urheber- Und ...' rim text on the labels, sought after by audiophiles for its superior vinyl quality and mastering.

Vinyl: Very Good Plus (VG+)
A strong and well-maintained copy. The vinyl retains a beautiful gloss and has clearly been well cared for. Under a strong light, some light, superficial surface marks and paper scuffs are visible, but nothing deep or feelable. An excellent listening copy that will play with minimal, unobtrusive background noise in the quietest passages.
Sleeve: Very Good Plus (VG+)
The original sleeve is clean, solid, and very presentable. It shows moderate signs of age and shelf wear, including some rubbing on the front and back surfaces, light ring wear, and some softening and wear to the corners and edges. The spine is strong and fully legible.
