READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beach Boys Today 1965 PROMO Cover LP MONO, EX/VG+!
Surprisingly nice PROMO copy of The Beach Boys Today. Vinyl is glossy new, with a few aberrations. Collectors know how hard it is to complete their collection of Beach Boys PROMO covers. If you’re in need of this one, it’s definitely a keeper copy.
Vinyl--- EX/VG+. Side 1 looks especially clean. Just one small patch at the 7 O’Clock position that has some extremely light hairline scratches. About 98% brand new shine. Side 2 has just two or three very light hairlines, one of which is long. But it’s an angel hair. The trouble which merits the VG+ grade is a short scratch on the last cut, which is feelable. I did play it at the record store, and was surprised that it doesn’t tick until about half of the way into it. You will slowly begin to hear a light tick on each rotation that you’ll only know about if you watch the record spin and correspond it to the position of the scratch. But then, as the rest of the track plays, it becomes increasingly noticeable. And even by the end, even the loudest tick doesn’t come close to being a pop. That side has about 90% original gloss.
Plates--- F3/F1. Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.
Cover--- VG+. Front cover has light to moderate ringwear at the bottom. Also has moderately yellowed. Top right corner has the perforated word, “PROMO” cleanly hole punched into it. Back cover has also moderately yellowed. Some foxing at the top. NO SEAM SPLITS.
Labels--- NM/VG+. Side 1 label looks nearly 1965-brand new. There are two manufacturer’s tiny pock marks. Side 2 label has a bright scratch. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
Inner Sleeve--- VG+. Original Burnt Orange Capitol inner sleeve is present. The perforated word, “PROMO” is hole-punched into the top corner, corresponding perfectly with the album cover. This is the original inner sleeve. Sleeve presents as EX, but has a one-inch bottom center seam split.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original inner sleeve en route.

Errr…was there really a Capitol executive named Dick Rising, or were they kidding around? And how did THAT get through in 1965?
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
