Description
Decca records issued My Bonnie/The Saints in the U.S. in April of 1962, first as a promotional copy (Decca 31382, pink label) and then as a commercial release. The original commercial releases are among the rarest and most valuable of all Beatles records.
'My Bonnie/The Saints' (Decca 31382) was a mild hit in Germany and England in 61/62, so Polydor enlisted Decca records, to give this record a try in the U.S. It went absolutely nowhere on the charts and the result is one of the rarest Beatles 45s around! Not convinced the name 'Beatles' was marketable they used “Beat Brothers” as "Beatles" was also considered difficult to interpret by Germans. Primarily a backing band to Tony Sheridan, a popular Elvis style German, this record totally bombed on the U.S. market.
This Decca 45 single, available to U.S. radio stations only, was the first Beatles record ever released in the US. Since the song was a failure, most of the promotional copies were tossed. It is extremely rare 45 single, “My Bonnie” on one side and “The Saints” on the other.
The original copies of this single have the correct Decca markings in the trail-off area : 45 DGG66833A and 45 DGG24673B.
This record was from a DJ’s collection. Being a typical jock he HAD to write on the label to remember what the music was. You can see from the pictures that the writing has not been tampered with to artificially improve condition. The vinyl is M- on both sides. I haven’t had a turntable in years but I am sure that it was only played by the original jock once or twice and by me the same amount of times. There are a few paper scuffs from the sleeve. This record still has that beautiful like-new sheen. It still has the original Decca sleeve too.
