The Beatles - The Beatles “White Album" 1st UK Mono Press Double LP, 22nd November, 1968

Complete & original 1st UK Mono press of The Beatles eponymous 1968 double album ‘The Beatles’ aka The White Album. The 1st pressing was released on the 22nd November 1968 and was incorrectly issued with printing errors on the labels, erroneously omitting missing “An EMI Recording” from the left-hand on side 2, 3, & 4 which was soon corrected on the 2nd press. All four sides have 1st press matrix numbers ending in -1 correctly denoting they were pressed from the 1st lacquers. The discs were housed in a 1st version laminated gatefold sleeve identified by the top-loading design and stamped with a unique 7-digit number in the bottom right corner. It also included several inserts and unique extras: two delicate black paper inners die-cut with centre hold on one side; a large fold-out collage poster with lyrics on the back; and 4 glossy portrait photos of each of the Beatles on thick photo paper.

CONDITION:

The Discs

Superb condition all-round. Side 1 has a deep-gloss sheen, only light signs of use when viewed in good natural light and under strong direct halogen spotlight, EXCELLENT PLUS! It plays superbly on every track including during quiet passages like the familiar aeroplane ‘take-off’ of Back in the U.S.S.R. Quiet-to-mid volume tracks like ‘Dear Prudence’ also sounds fantastic and plays without interference from crackle. Over the entire side one the are no pops or clicks. Obviously there are no skips also with this high grade, NEAR MINT! Side 2 has a deep-gloss sheen also, with only light signs of use when viewed in good natural light and under strong direct halogen spotlight, EXCELLENT PLUS! It plays superbly throughout the whole side including during the many quiet tracks on this side like ‘Blackbird’, ‘I Will’, and ‘Julia’ all of which plays without interference from crackle, pops or clicks. Obviously there are no skips with this high grade, NEAR MINT! Side 3 has a superb factor-fresh sheen, with no marks or wear visible when viewed in both good natural daylight and - more importantly - under strong direct halogen spotlight, NEAR MINT! It plays as good as it looks throughout the whole side including during the multiple quiet tracks like ‘Mother Natures Son’ and ‘Long, Long, Long’. All tracks play without distraction from crackle, pops or clicks, NEAR MINT! Finally, side 4 also has a superb factor-fresh sheen, without only the lightest signs of play when viewed in both good natural daylight and - more importantly - under strong direct halogen spotlight, EXCELLENT PLUS! The lead-in to this side is super-quiet and ‘Revolution 1’ plays superbly, giving way to a feint click during the intro of ‘Honey Pie’ that resolves as the instruments come in. The remaining tracks play superbly, without crackle, clicks or pops including the quiet ‘Good Night’ which sounds fantastic and is so often plagued by ‘end-of-side’ distortion, EXCELLENT PLUS!

Both discs sit completely flat on the turntable without warping or dishing. All four labels on both sides are clean from writing and stickers and are without wear at the centre hole. Clearly there are no skips or sticks across the entire double LP with this high grade. Overall, a fantastic looking and playing 1st press set!

The Sleeve

The sleeve is also in fantastic condition. The colour is nice and creamy white without discolouration/yellowing. The front face is glossy and clean without ring wear. As is the back and inside the gatefold. Only light signs of handling. There are no stains, marks or writing. The spine is fully readable - fantastic, EXCELLENT PLUS!

The Inners

Both fragile black inners remarkably have no splits, EXCELLENT!

The Poster

The large fold out lyrics poster has no tears, pen, stains, tape or pin marks, EXCELLENT PLUS!

The Photos

All four photos are bright and clean, without wear, marks, pin holes or tape, NEAR MINT!
