READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles Second Album 1968 LP Jacksonville Weird In-House Subsidiary of…Labels, NM!

In 1968, when the Jacksonville plant printed their in-house labels for the Subsidiary of…pressing, they came up with these micro-print labels.  They compressed all the info above the playhole, including the word, “STEREO,” the Sides 1 and 2 info and the catalogue number, leaving a larger-than-usual gap between the end of all that info and the track listings per side.

Within months, when the Capitol label was switched over to the green label with the purple target, there was a straight transfer variation pressed by Jacksonville.  Those are a little easier to find, but it takes effort and patience.  The black Capitol with rainbow is much harder to find in collectable condition.

This label variation is also one of the Jacksonville titles to use the cobalt blue dome and perimeter text.

And it’s in amazing condition!

Vinyl--- NM/NM.  Side 1 looks unplayed.  Side 2 has that “now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t” manufacturer’s defect, where when tilted the right way, something that resembles a scratch appears, but tilt it the other way, and it disappears.  That’s because this line is beneath the pressed grooves, where your stylus can’t detect it.

Plates--- W7/W5.  Hand-etched letter “O” in the dead wax on both sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.

Cover--- VG+.  Cover is very strong, with the exception of some stray foxing, front and back, and a 2 ½-inch split at the top right corner.  Light dirtwear on the back.  Promo punch hole in the top right corner.

Labels--- NM/NM.  Labels look like they were printed at breakfast.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Some very light wrinkling and record outdent.  Promo hole is present, making this the originally-released inner sleeve.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 9

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
