Description
For auction is a rare and highly collectable 'Fourth Proof' early pressing edition of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. These Fourth Proof sleeves were issued (erroneously) at the very start of the pressing run of SPLHCB and quickly replaced. The 'Patents Pending' mark is also still present on the rear of the sleeve, which was also subsequently removed.
This copy has a great condition sleeve with just a little corner and opening edge wear and discolouration and only light creasing in the usual areas. I have graded it as EX- due to the discoloured spots along the spine but, having said that, the spine is still very good indeed and nicely readable and that is not the case with most first edition copies of SPLHCB being sold!
The vinyl has some long scuff marks and some scratches, but nothing horrible (visually still VG, I would say). Playability is very good indeed: strong and clear and easy to enjoy. There are no skips or jumps, just some surface noise in quieter moments and some rotational ticks towards the end of Fixing A Hole and the beginning of She's Leaving Home. Within You and Without You also has a little more surface noise in the intro groove. There are some other ticks and pops here and there but I am fussy about vinyl playback quality and would grade this as at least VG for playability - it's definitely a copy you can play and enjoy! Matrix is obviously -1, -1.
The Fool inner rates an easy VG+ as it is intact and un-split! It is well-handled and slightly discoloured with age plus some darker spotting, but still a very nice example. The cutout sheet is a dark green beauty in excellent condition!
The labels are in excellent condition with just a few spindle marks. KT tax code is on side 2 and an extra dot before '.U.K.' on Side 1. There is no writing anywhere on the labels or the sleeve.

I try to be as honest and thorough in my listings as possible but if I've left anything out, please ask any questions you like, I'm happy to answer or send additional photos. I haven't tried to photograph the scuffs/scratches as the light just wasn't good enough.
I always combine postage where possible and don't add any extra to the cost unless the cost of the package increases due to additional weight.

On 31-Jan-16 at 16:55:55 GMT, seller added the following information:Now that this item has attracted quite a lot of watchers, I have given it another play through and felt I should add to the above assessment that there are some segments of rotational ticks on Within You Without You, When I'm Sixty Four and Lovely Rita that escaped my notice before. These coincide with some of the scratches mentioned above and all tracks are subject to some pops and clicks, though Within You Without You and When I'm Sixty Four seem to be more prone in this regard.
