Description
The Beatles "Yesterday And Today" Capitol T-2553 3rd-state peeled mono butcher cover and record issued in the summer of 1966...in all-around excellent condition. What's super-cool about this item is that it's totally complete - exactly as it was issued 40 years ago. You will not only receive the album cover but also the record, the "peeled-off" front slick, the original inner sleeve, a copy of the recall letter, and a brand new frame with a plexiglass front. The basic history on these particularly unique albums (for those who are just learning)...is that these are the infamous 'recalled' covers resulting from the public outcry at the avante-garde photo originally chosen by The Beatles and their photographer Bob Whitaker. After the difficult decision was made to make the cover photo change Capitol came up with an ingenious idea - instead of throwing away all the original covers - Capitol Records decided they could save money by simply pasting an "un-offensive" slick over the "offensive" slick (called the trunk cover - see photo of the removed slick which is included). This "un-offensive" slick has been professionally "peeled off" to reveal the original...and the peel job came out great. Thus, we have what is known in the industry as a "3rd-state peeled mono Butcher". This is a #6 pressing plant (which is the little number on the bottom back right corner meaning it was produced in Los Angeles). The peel job came out a gorgeous near-mint having NO tears, NO left-over unremoved slick spots, NO filled-in repairs or touch-ups, crispy-clean edges with 4 pointy corners. The non-photo part of the cover is a conservative VG or better, i.e., there are NO writing marks, major staining, or other detractions on the front or back. The bottom edge is clean and straight with no splits at all, and the top edge has no seamsplits either but does show a little soft-rub and age-wear, with a very small amount of whitish off-coloring between the words "File Under: The Beatles" and "T-2553". The spine also has some spotty off-coloring and visible "paper cracking" but is actually only split 3" from the "T" in "YESTERDAY" to the "T" in "BEATLES". I'm really trying to be picky on the description and am including several photos - I want the buyer to be happy and am putting the reserve quite low! This item is very reasonably priced considering it's displayability is fantastic. This copy comes with the original matching Los Angeles record in solid VG+ condition with beautiful near mint labels on both sides...as well as the original, correct-color "goldenrod" matching Los Angeles-produced inner sleeve. This highly-collectible "keeper" is 100% authentic, and guaranteed to be exactly as it was issued back in 1966 coming complete with the removed ("peeled off") front trunk slick. This auction additionally includes a copy of the Capitol letter of recall sent to all of the distributors. I've also included a brand new display frame with an unbreakable plexiglass front to the winning bidder (see photo). The reserve on this is lower than you might expect...and authenticity and condition are guaranteed!
