READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. I took in a large collection of Beatles albums this week, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

The vinyl is very good on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split.  Here’s one that’s a good, solid play copy.

Beatles-Related 1965 LP Sing a Song with The Beatles Tower MONO, VG!

Believe it or not, I’ve always liked this album, recorded for Capitol’s subsidiary label, Tower.  (That might be why they were allowed to use The Beatles’ images.)  It’s a quirky album. 

It’s one of the earliest precursors to karaoke, with instrumental versions of early Beatles songs that were performed by a 1960’s garage-sounding band of studio musicians.  The performances are tight and well-organized.  The guitarist is playing a Gretsch, so he sounds a lot like George.  The bassist is playing an acoustic bass, so he sounds a lot like Paul.  The drummer sounds nothing like Ringo, but he’s an absolute metronome, who plays his own ideas when he wants.

But by far, the strangest aspect is that there is no John counterpart.  The fourth player is playing what sounds like a Wurlitzer organ, usually playing the songs’ melodies.  The effect is this high-energy unwieldy garage rock instrumental album with Larry Ferrari sitting in.

“Please Please Me” and “I Feel Fine” are the absolute standouts.

Vinyl--- VG/VG.  A moderate amount of light scratches only.  Nothing that can be felt.  75% original shine.

Plates--- G2/G2.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- VG.  Structurally sound.  Moderate to heavy dirtwear and light foxing.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

Gatefold--- VG.  Pretty much the opposite.  Lots of foxing, light dirtwear.  NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.

Labels--- VG/VG.  Moderate amount of visible spindle marks.  Some white wear to both labels.

Tower Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  One side seam has a split about 3 inches.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Tower inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: None.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
