Description
CHARLES MINGUS - " MINGUS REVISTED ", Mercury Records Ltd. (SMWL 21056) Stereo, 1965.
Very rare, UK white label test pressing of the 1965 Mercury LP by Mingus.
Plain white labels on both sides with the record's details in written in biro on just one side.
Features matrix numbers; SIDE A = 220009 1Y//2 420 11 2 / SIDE B = 22009 2Y// 1 420 11 2
NOTE: In the spot around the label where the record cat. number usually appears in the matrix, this LP has "220009" instead of the "SMWL 21056" I would expect to see. My guess is that this might be a later issue or pressing... but it is just a guess. All I can do is list this LP and all it's details to the best of my abilities and hope that someone else out there knows more than me. Or at least, that bidders can make up their own minds.
UK issue and pressing.
Professionally cleaned on a Moth cleaning machine (after cleaning, it was put in a new/clean poly-lined inner sleeve)
NOTE: this record is one of a collection I have just bought from an ex-Mercury employee. Generally, these records have hardly been played... many have clearly had no more than a couple of quick test-plays. Even those which have clearly been used a bit more, have very well looked after and only ever played on a good quality, well set up turntable. Please read the condition description below for acurate detail on the condition of this particular LP.
CONDITION:
VINYL = EXCELLENT- (No big scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, just a few light spindle trails, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out a few very light marks visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. It plays well - free from interuption from distortion, clicks, pops, etc... Probably would have been a straight "EX" on playback alone. Overall, although it is not quite perfect, it is by no means ruined by these tiny visual imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy.... or for a serious collector who appreciates that such rare test pressings have avalue beyond just their playback. Definitely a test pressing which has been used for it's original purpose and not been played much since.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts. Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records. Before bidding, please read my description carefully, decide how much this record is worth to you and place you max bid accordingly. Please also feel free to check out my feedback from the many other successful transactions I have made in the past.
ANY QUESTIONS? PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO GET IN TOUCH!
HAPPY BIDDING!!!!!
