Charley Patton, Paramount 12792, Pony Blues/Banty Rooster Blues When I purchased this record (from a very reputable major American 78 dealer) he rated it as Good+. Maybe by appearance... but aurally, I'm not so sure ... so I'm grading it as Fair+ to Good (arguably Good+). The labels are better than the scan appears. Per 78 Quarterly magazine, there are fewer than 20 known copies of Paramount 12792. This is a quiet record - even the crackle is pretty quiet. On my record player the surface noise remains about equal to the guitar/vocal, and at times - especially at the very beginning of each side, it can be tough to hear the music above the background. If you're a Patton fan, especially knowing the music, you can hear it well. As with many Paramounts the sound is at its worst as he record starts, then gets better as it plays on. The record looks fairly clean, (I've not attempted to clean it further). With your equipment, depending on the stylus and/or equipment used for playback, you might get more music out of it.
