CHRIS SIEVEY AND THE FRESHIES - BEING FRANK (VIDEO CASSETTE)
RAZZ RECORDS CV2 (UK 1983)
WITH 3D GLASSES AND INSERT
Original and very rare 1983 video cassette by the great Manchester artist Chris Sievey and his band The Freshies - a pioneer of DIY punk movement and composer of some of the greatest powerpop songs of the late '70s and early '80s - later known by his Frank Sidebottom persona.
At the back of the cassette the content is described: "This video tape follows the events during three days in December 1982 - it concerns Chris Sievey and The Freshies number on efan.. Frank Sidebottom and his attempt to finally see his heroes perform live on stage. This video also delves into the Freshies past with some vintage promo videos made by the band.."
A video cassette with the same title 'Being Frank' is listed in an earlier Razz catalogue from 1980-1981 but this one with code CV-2 iincludes material from the late 1982 so it is certainly later. I can only guess that Chris Sievey was adding newer material to the old video tapes and he would re-launch them with a new code.
In my collection I have the super scarce booklet THE FRESHIES RAZZVIZZ VIDEOGRAPHY which dates from late 1981 and presents 9 different Razz videos (Razz-10, Razz-14, Razz-15, Razz-16, Razz-17, Razz-18, Razz-19, Razz-20 and Razz-21) which I doubt that they were actually released (I can only confirm 4 video tapes of Chris Sievey and The Freshies that I know to exist).
This video tape comes complete with a pair of 3-D glasses and an extra insert plus an accompanying Chris Sievey letter to the buyer of the cassette (I did not inlcude it in the photos due to the personal data that it contains). Also the video cassette is signed by Chris Sievey (you can hardly see it on the black case).
A really scarce and great memorabilia item from the DIY punk/new wave scene and the legendary band from Manchester.
