The perfect gateway into the Sydney rock band's early years, originally released in 1988 and now reissued on striking 180gsm splatter vinyl, this collection spans the band's first five albums from Of Skins and Heart through to Heyday, plus rare B-sides and singles that reveal a more experimental edge to their post-punk roots. The Church's evolution from jangly, melodic pop to lush, introspective psychedelia is evident throughout, from breakout tracks like 'The Unguarded Moment' and 'Almost With You' - which still shimmer with chiming guitars and Steve Kilbey's unmistakable vocals - to 'Electric Lash' and 'Constant in Opal', showing their increasingly atmospheric direction. B-sides such as 'Fraulein' and 'The Golden Dawn' while lesser-known cuts like 'The Night is Very Soft' and 'As You Will' add mystery and charm. Coming just before 'Under the Milky Way', this reissue covers the best, just before their international stardom set in.
