INCREDIBLY RARE EARLY DOO WOP SINGLE BY RONNIE HEIGHT.
COME SOFTLY TO ME
and SO YOUNG, SO WISE
FIRST PUBLISHED IN 1958 on DECCA F.11126
In the late fifties, 'Doo Wop' was booming.
A three piece vocal band called 'The Fleetwoods' had a huge international hit with what was probably the ultimate 'Pop Doo Wop' single - 'Come softly to me'.
It was covered by Ronnie Height and became a very minor hit in its own right.
Copies of the Fleetwoods version are still quite common.
Copies of Ronnie's are very scarce!
ON OFFER HERE IS ONE SUCH COPY.
AND WHAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE UNUSUAL IS THAT IT'S IN ALMOST UNMARKED CONDITION!!
I CAN SEE NO EVIDENCE OF SPINDLE MARKS AND APART FROM A COUPLE OF EXTREMELY SUPERFICIAL SCUFF MARKS ON THE 'B' SIDE AND A TINY FLAKE OUT OF THE SHELLAC ON THE EDGE, WHICH DOESN'T TOUCH THE PLAYING SURFACE (I've taken a picture which makes it look worse than it is!),
IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S JUST COME OFF THE PRESS!!
NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT PLAYS JUST FINE!
I WOULD BE SURPRISED IF THERE'S A BETTER EXAMPLE LEFT IN EXISTENCE!!
AND I'M OFFERING IT WITH NO RESERVE!
