Description
Here's an original A&M studio acetate of a very impressive, unreleased 1974 LP by Charles Bevel. None of these tracks have been released, including a great, impressionistic cover of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition." Evidently, it was intended as a follow up to his well regarded 1973 album Meet "Mississippi Charles" Bevel and was meant be titled simply "Mississippi." The only reference I can find to this withdrawn LP is a blurb from the September 24, 1974 issue of Cashbox (see screen grab above), which mentions several of the song titles and refers to the album as "Mississippi... his current A&M LP." No such album was actually released--the writer may have been going off a faulty press release. This disc must be one of only a handful that were made for in-house review at the label.
