Description
PLEASE NOTE: This auction is for one of a number of rare Charlie Parker original 78 rpm recordings I will be offering on eBay. The highlights include a number of high-numbered Dials, including the rarest of them all Dial 1056, as well as both Dial Be-Bop Jazz albums, Dial D-1 and D-2, the first of which has been autographed by DIZZY GILLESPIE!!
On offer in this auction is the 10" 78 rpm "STEINER-DAVIS 49" recorded by DIZZY GILLESPIE'S BAND with CHARLIE PARKER. Both sides are TIGER RAG, with the B-side by Wild Bill Davidson's Band. The record is in very good (VG) condition with clean labels. The record does have a slight loss of gloss and light overall wear, with a couple of light scratches. This is a real oddity and rarity in the Charlie Parker canon, as the record is a radio broadcast of a battle of the bands on WOR radio on September 20, 1947, where Dizzy's band was pitted again Wild Bill's on the New Orleans standard 'Tiger Rag'. On the record the voice of the announcer Carl Caruso can be heard! The band was officially billed on the radio as 'Barry Ulanov and his All-Star Mteronome Jazzmen'. Dizzy's band plays hands down the craziest Tiger Rag ever heard which quotes 'Hold That Tiger' and turns into 'Shaw 'Nuff' in the out-chorus! This is perhaps the FIRST release ever of a radio broadcast on a commercial 78 rpm record, which interesting predates the Gillespie-Parker concert at Carnegie Hall just one week later, which resulted in the release of the pirated 'The Black Deuce' 78rpm discs. In this incredible band, along with Dizzy and Bird is Lennie Tristano, Max Roach, and Ray Brown. Not many of these discs were pressed and sold as it was something of a novelty at the time, but included an amazing performance by the boppers!
Please examine the supersized scans of the labels I have provided. I encourage interested parties to ask any questions if desired. In addition, I have available scans of the full sides of every record disc/s so you can examine the record's surfaces.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND PAYMENT UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY INVOICE!! If you win more than one record I will only combine shipping if you wait for me to send you a combined invoice. Shipping will be by Canada Post Expedited or XpressPost Service. Both are reasonably inexpensive, extremely safe, reliable, and trackable. Insurance is approximately $1.00 per $100.00 value to the United States, and is slightly more worldwide. Please understand that the listed shipping charges are only approximate, as the record/records has not been packed up as of yet. In addition, the cost is geographically dependent. If you wish, please ask and I can determine a more specific shipping cost. Finally, if the shipping charge paid is more than listed on my invoice, I will be more than happy to refund the difference. Payment is by PayPal, but I will accept other forms of payment if desired. Please e-mail me as to what other payment methods I accept.
