Description
An original 1st STEREO press of OLDIES on UK Parlophone from 1966. Matrix 1G/1G .Stampers 1R/1L - indicating this example is from the first few thousand copies ever pressed. Large "Stereo" on the labels - very 1st variation. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day cover [heavy card]. We have the original black and white Emitex advertising inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In really nice condition and has only seen relatively light use. I could make out a few marks per side - most are pretty minor with one or two just getting semi-feelable. One or two will sound briefly - see detail. But remember - this example is heavy pressed with deep grooves. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with deviation in a couple of spots. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. All I could detect were a couple of minor ticks in a couple of spots in HELP - very minor. The only noticeable audible issue I could pick up was 4-5 clicks early in Michelle [caused by the mark mentioned above]. It then goes cleaner with, perhaps, another 5-6 minor ticks which are much more 'lower in the mix/not upfront'. Yesterday & Submarine & Rigby - super fussy - but play totally clean. Overall - a really great rendition. You, really, just need to take the issues in Michelle on the chin. That's all.
Cover (Vg+) Might grade a bit higher if it weren't for an issue on the rear. The front looks gorgeous and perfectly flat - just a couple of thumbnails. The rear looks, on the whole, really nice with minimal ageing [particularly given the vintage]. Someone, however, at some point has managed a coffee spill down in the bottom left corner. It has been cleaned up a good bit - but there is some surface scuffing [as a result]. That's the only issue really - in all other respects...superb. Minimal edge wear. Four pointy corners. Lovely sharp firm openings. The spine is 100% perfect. And the cover still retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. No splits. Very nice.
