A terrific 1957 Blue Note outing led by Curtis Fuller. Aside from the prolific and relaxed solos and ensemble work from Fuller, Art Farmer’s impeccably original melodic trumpet work is also featured; backed by the rhythm section of Conrad Yeatis Clark (aka Sonny) whom Alfred Lyon and Ike Quebec began to depend on when assigning or recommending sidemen for leaders to use on upcoming Blue Note dates. Sonny’s sound is immediately recognizable both for his block chords & his unique swinging syncopated melodic linear construction of emerging post-bop solo lines, ranging from funk to elegant pretty passion. His comp'ing behind the solos is far from trite – full of surprise and expanding the ensemble with its textures. George Tucker lays it down kicked by Louis Hayes’ sharp and snappy 'post-Kenny Clarke' attack. Get in the groove with this unique and rare pressing; you’ll be glad you bought it!  ___
