Description
HUNKY DORY .
1971 U.K. ORIGINAL
LAMINATED SLEEVE.
Every Bowie collection on the planet has a vinyl copy of Hunky Dory .The thing is , 999 out of 1000 of them are from 1972 , and so were purchased after the success of Ziggy Stardust making them the later re- release .
This is the 1971 Original with the laminated front sleeve , none laminated back cover . If you look towards the spine in the pictures you can see where the lamination finishes on the back cover .No mention of mainman anywhere on the item , Tony Defries introduced the Mainman set up in 1972 as soon as the records started flying off the shelfs .RCA had big expectations for this Lp and despite Tony Blackburn wisely making Changes his record of the week , in 1971 , there was to be no tour to promote the album .Obviously a contributing factor as to why sales of this superb LP were so poor , it was considerd by RCA , to be just another Bowie flop .This is a very rare Bowie LP.
The difference between the original 71 and later 72 releases is pretty dramatic .
Not only is the 1971 LP much better made , but its the front sleeve thats all the difference .Look at it . The colours jump out at you copared to the 72 issues they are much brighter , harder and more upfront due chiefly to the addition of the lamination .
The condition is pretty fantastic with no unwanted handwriting anywhere on the item , this rare LP is in really great shape . The original lyric sheet is present and the old fashioned heavy vinyl is also in superb order and plays mint minus with no faults at all , this is the sort of condition collectors hunt for.
P.S.
Okay , first my appologies for having to restart this auction but due to huge interest from colIectors (serious collectors) who did not know this laminated LP exists ( there is no mention of it in Record collector or in Goldmine ).
I just feel the need to provide better info , which is why ive now included pictures 6 and 7 in the photos of the 1971 original Lamination and the 1972 re- release (SIDE BY SIDE) so that you can all see the difference between the cheap takky 72 release and the 1971 superare ORIGINAL !
As you can NOW see the difference is hugely substantial .
TOTALLY OUTSTANDING .
Take a long look .
From the record companies point of view , in 71 , yes , spend a bit of money promoting `our new stars LP ` ( they laminated and seriously coloured it) . But they did not make many of em !
After Ziggy sold six Million ! count em , six Million !
Lets Re release Bowies best LP Hunky Dory , but why bother adding a superior print job or a costly lamination ? They will buy it if it whatever it looks like . And we all did !
THIS IS A HUGELY RARE DAVID BOWIE RECORD .
And it will not sell cheaply , and why should it ? When Goldmine and Record Collector ( who STILL to this day AMAZINGLY refuse to take eBay into considderation as they set their valuations ) .
Will be forced to recognise this true Bowie rarety .
SELL THE GOLF CLUBS .
It will be a long time before you see another .
Expect late bidders !
