In 1972, probably the most influential rock music album of all time was released
'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'
These two 12" vinyl acetates are a veritable find, and a valuable piece of the jigsaw, that provides the link between those tracks originally planned for the album, and what was eventually released.
Disc One, Side One: Five Years, Soul Love, Moonage Daydream (stops abruptly half way through)
Disc One, Side Two: Lady Stardust, Star, Hang On to Yourself, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City, Rock n' Roll Suicide
Disc Two, Side One: Five Years, Soul Love, Moonage Daydream, Round n' Round, It Ain't Easy (fades early)
Disc Two, Side Two: Blank acetate
So you have three revelations, here: Moonage Daydream on Disc One going dead, with no other tracks to follow; It Ain't Easy fading much earlier than the regular issue; best of all though, is the wonderful inclusion of Round n Round, which was eventually replaced by Starman, that we know and love!
I purchased this fabulous slice of history from a reputable source (for a lot of money, incidentally!), several years ago. He told me that he obtained it from his sister who was a recording artiste in the early 70's who had recorded at Trident Studios (where Ziggy was recorded, of course!), She had obviously procured it from an engineer of the time, but it was basically salvaged when Trident closed down.
I am happy with its provenance, and my reputation as a Bowie collector should be borne out bythe evidence of my immense, valuable and rare collection sold this year, and one that will run for a long time to come!
As for the quality, this, I'm afraid leaves a bit to be desired. The important segue of Moonage Daydream to Round n Round is good enough but Round n Round jumps a bit, and the vinyl is understandably scratched aftyer 36 years of use, and engineers playing the thing back to death, no doubt!
Still, we know the tracks in their recorded form, so playing this acetate is not relly an option, nor advisable. It is, however an important and rare document of the transformation and evolution of one of the greatest albums of all time, so would be vital to the ultimate collector, as probably the only one of its kind.
They will be well wrapped, due to the brittle and delicate nature of an acetate, and sent together, unless you insist (and pay the extra) otherwise, as the shipping cost would be excessive.
