I assume this is a mono/ monaural recording.

Recorded in 1962, released in January 1963.
Recorded at Pal Studios in Cucamonga, CA.
It was reissued on Princess in February 1963.
It was released by Dot in April 1963.
The Dot Records pressing Dot 45-144 sold over 1 million copies in 1965.

The Surfaris were an American surf rock band formed in Glendale, California in 1962.
This is the ultra rare 1st pressing on small Southern California label. According to Discogs, Popsike, Roots Vinyl Guide, Way Back Attack, Grip Sweat, 45 Cat, Wikipedia and other sites, this is the record that had only 100 pressings.
I also inquired by phone and then in-person with Amoeba Music in Los Angeles. They said this looks to be one of the originals and made me a wholesale offer, I declined.
I left a message at Atomic Records in Burbank, no reply.
This 45 was later released by Dot Records where it became a #2 top seller.
Many of the DFS 100 copies were sold at a few high schools in the Glendale area. A few were issued to local radio stations for testing the public’s feedback.
The DFS label refers to Dale Francis Smallin, the manager of The Surfaris, who did the voice and surfboard breaking sound effect at the beginning of Wipe-Out.
Dale also produced 16mm films, and recorded & filmed The Beach Boys for the first time in a short film called “One Man’s Challenge” for the AZUSA Boys Club. Most of Dale’s films are at the UCLA film and television archives.

I found this record at a sale in Laguna Beach, California... 60 miles from Glendale.
It was with other books and records also written on as previous owner “Engelbratt”
The record runoff area on Side A is etched “DFS - SURFER JOE”. No other etched words or numbering on the record.

I haven’t played this record. I haven’t done any cleaning of the play surface or the labels.
I leave that up to the buyer as most people have their preferred methods and cleaning materials.
CONDITION
This is in fair to good condition,
especially for being 57 years old.
The playing surface on both sides shows wear and light surface scratches but only one scratch of noticeable depth, on Surfer Joe. (See photos)
No warping, no chips or cracks.
The center hole is pretty clean.
The labels have some dirt and wear, and a few small scuffs.
Ink pen writing on Side A might be autographs (?), written as “Bob Berryhill” and “Pat Connolly”.
The writing might just be the previous owner’s notes.
If these are actual autographs this may add more value to the record.
Ink pen writing on Side B reads “Surf” and “Engelbrett” (spelling?) . This may have been a high school student’s writing or a radio disc jockey’s writing, not sure.
I do not have the original paper sleeve.
