Description

DON RENDELL / IAN CARR QUINTET - " DUSK FIRE ", Columbia/EMI Records Ltd. (SX 6064) Mono, 1966.

Very rare, 1966, English 1st Mono LP issue of the classic British Jazz album, part of Columbia's esteemed Lansdowne Series.

With front laminated flip-back sleeve , blue on black labels, original inner sleeve. Plus, "XAX3133 - 1U" AND "XAX 3134 - 1U" matrix numbers... although, as far as I can tell, this excellent LP was issued/pressed just once so all of this is purely academic.

English issue and pressing.

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve has also been retained and included in the auction - see photo)

In the name of a good auction I'm starting this record at just 99p and i will let the bidders decide it's worth.

CONDITION:

VINYL =  V.G.+ (No deep scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, etc. Under a bright grading lamp I can make out a few very slight surface marks and a few other faint scuffs just visible on the vinyl's surface - although none of these correspond directly to any audible defects. Generally it plays fairly well, but there is some very faint occasional surface noise audible during the run-in, between tracks and sometimes during the quieter sections of some tracks. As the record played, I did hear the odd faint click or crackle in the background from time to time, but generally when the music gets busier it obscures these small imperfections. Additionally, when the vinyl is examined under a grading lamp there very faint shadowy areas/mottling visible in the vinyl - these are down to the original pressing though, not wear and do not affect the sound.

Overall, although it is not quite perfect and I realise this will affect the value, it is by no means ruined by these minor imperfections and would still make a good honest copy for someone to play and enjoy - perfect copies of this LP exchange hands for a lot of money these days and although this is not quite one of those museum pieces, it is still a very serviceable copy that would be great for somebody out there to play and enjoy as it was originally intented.

Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)

SLEEVE = V.G.+ (Still fairly good. NO rips, tears, big creases, etc. But, I did have to mark it down a bit for general wear around the edges, some thumb creases/other light creases in the laminate and being a bit grubby or discoloured in places. Also, the rear has a small black ink smudge, "GR 13137" written in blue biro in the top left corner and "KENSINGTON PUBLIC LIBRARIES MUSIC LIBRARY" stamped on the back in small black letters - see photos for further clarification)

LABELS = V.G.- (Probably the weakest area on this LP. No defacing or tears, but I'm afraid as an ex-public library record the labels suffer pretty heavy spindle trails and wear around centre hole. As with other areas of this record though, these are cosmetic defects and won't affect the way it plasy - see photos for more info)

NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts. Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records. Before bidding, please read my description carefully, decide how much this record is worth to you and place you max bid accordingly. Please also feel free to check out my feedback from the many other successful transactions I have made in the past.
