An album that gave meaning to the phrase "Rock Instrumental" and still, to this day, one of its greatest exponents. This legendary Lee Hazelwood- produced 1960 album, unlike some of Duane Eddy's later works, withstood the test of time wonderfully and contains some of the most memorable and haunting guitar solos in existence. This is the mold in which most of the later instrumental and surf albums are made; and some of them are simply poor copies of this original. Remember: even if you are lucky enough to own the original, insanely rare stereo copy of this album, bear in mind that the original copy still sports the greatest "wide-channel" stereo sound in existence/ To hear this album the way it was meant to be heard, this is your last, best chance. The album is practically impossible to find as (a) Gatefold cover (b) STEREO pressing and (c) ridiculously rare poster/insert still attached to the cover. This BEAUTY has it ALL!!!  (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The album comes with the original poster still intact (the poster is 100% complete – NO piece is missing)

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(e)           Stereo  pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono  counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies  by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NEAR MINT !

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.  Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold as well.

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-         The laminated cover has a slight loss (flaking) of lamination along the opening edge (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers; lamination is just beginning to peel-off along the opening edge; however, since the underlying layer of the cover is ALSO laminated, the peeled-off spots are only a minor visual distraction  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
