Description

An original 1st issue of Hunky Dory on the UK RCA label. Matrix 2E/3T. Etching "Rasputin". For copies to be consistent with 1st issue [the time when it originally charted] the labels must exhibit the original "Titanic" publishing credit and the deadwax must mention "Rasputin". In '71 Bowie was yet to hit the heady heights of Stardust fame and, thus, these early '71 copies are, comparatively, few and far between. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original non-laminated cover which does NOT exhibit the Mainman logo. Please note that some very early copies can be found with front-lamination. Also included is the generic white inner sleeve from the time, and the orangey-brown lyric insert. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In great condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across superb clarity. By and large a beautiful player of this classic LP. Interference is both minor and infrequent. In fact, the only track where interference is vaguely audible is during "8 Line Poem", and do bear in mind this is extremely common due to it's very low-key nature. On this example it still plays relatively clean compared to most copies - with just the lightest low-level static here and there. Absolutely nothing invasive, or distracting. "Bewlay Brothers" is another fussy track and it seems to play very nice and clean. By and large a really very impressive rendition of this early Bowie classic.
Cover (Vg+) In very nice condition and fairing better than most other examples that surface. That front cover appears very nice and clean without ageing, and precious little handling wear. Please note there's a tiny sticker removal patch in the top left corner. The rear is equally good with just an almost invisible sticker removal mark top right corner. Edge wear is reasonably light except for at the middle of the top edge. Here, it's worn through for two inches - we have secured it internally with tape and thus it's only a small cosmetic issue. There's a bit of wear too on the spine, but the text is mostly just about legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg) A couple of small edge splits - which have been taped up.
Insert (Ex-) One slight crease.
