Original UK Purple records label stereo press LP.

The sixth album by Deep Purple (not counting Concerto!) and one that very nearly didn't happen as Ian Gillan caught hepititis before they were due to go to Montreux in Switzerland to record in December 1971. Then the hotel was burnt down during Frank Zappa's concert and they ended up in another empty Grand Hotel in the snow. Three weeks later the band packed up for a world tour and the album was released in April 1972, becoming their best selling record to date.

This is the original Quadrophonic pressing, released in June 1972, with the lyric poster, the Quad inner sleeve and the earliest 'Gramophone Co...Made In Great Britain' label rim text. With the A-1 B-1 matrices and matching 1-A 1-A stampers of the very first presses.   The Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light laminate rubbing/bubbling on the outer cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, but there is some crushing. The Quad company inner is intact & in VG+ condition and the lyric poster is intact and in EX condition.   The record is in visually VG+ condition, with quite a few faint hairlines and a couple of light needle marks/scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, undamaged, clean & bright with evidence of a few spindle markings on each side.  
The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud crackle, pops or hiss and definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some background noise during the run in grooves and briefly in a couple of the quieter passages. Overall, it is still a really good listen and plays great.

The matrix nos. are; Q4TPSA-7504, A-1 mother stamper 1-A, B-1 mother stamper 1-A. This is one of the 1st pressings of the original 1972 UK Quadrophonic issue of this album!
