A rare 1956 German RCA EP from the very beginning of Elvis Presley’s international breakthrough - offered here in the earliest first-issue sleeve variant.

RCA Victor 45 EP, catalog SPA 7-37 (Germany, 1956)
This copy features the earliest German first-edition sleeve, identifiable by its top-opening sleeve and English-language back cover, closely aligned with the original U.S. RCA layout.
Compared to the U.S. original, the earliest German sleeve shows black back-cover lettering (not red), a different RCA logo, and minor layout variations, marking it as a distinct first German issue. Later German copies adopted translated liner notes; this earlier variant predates that change.
According to research published by John Boija, respected Swedish Elvis collector and discographer, this first edition was ordered by Swedish Grammofon AB Electra in November 1956, bears a German copyright date of December 20, 1956, and was produced as a give-away for Electra’s sales campaign starting January 14, 1957.
The release was deleted from the RCA catalogue on January 18, 1958, giving this first-issue configuration a very short original availability period.
Publicly documented auction records show that a later German pressing, graded VG, reached $1,312 at auction (eBay, August 2023). This remains the most recent recorded sale of this German release.
To the best of my knowledge, this first-issue German sleeve variant is being offered on eBay for the first time.
CONDITION
Record: EX / EX-
First side with excellent gloss and a few very paper lines and light sleeve scuffs, none feelable and not audible during playback. Grades solid EX.
Second side shows a light visible scuff and some thin hairlines, again non-feelable and not affecting play, grading strong EX- (visually closer to VG+++).
Both sides play great with strong sound throughout.
