Fairfield Parlour : Home To Home 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press
This first pressing from Fairfield Parlour (formerly known as Kaleidoscope of course) plays with amazing clarity and depth from start to finish with no actual interference. I sold one of these 2/3 months back and this one is just as impressive and easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE album i.e. no need to purchase another as it would be virtually impossible to find a better one! It has been so well looked after over the last 50+ years and cannot have been played very often judging by the audio and the pristine visual quality of the vinyl, it really is immaculate!
The textured gatefold is in excellent condition with not very much spindle wear and the original swirl inner is also in excellent order shape with only a couple of small tears on the central 'window'. This is one incredible album!

Visual grading
The vinyl is in beautiful condition and 'as new' is no exaggeration. It has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches and I cannot detect any hairlines either, it really is a work of art! There is no groove wear and it gleams so clearly as only a superbly well preserved vinyl does. The Vertigo labels are also in fantastic condition with no marking/writing and there is barely any spindle wear. What you can see is so faint and barely visible. This truly is a stunning example of this highly sought after LP.
Play grading
The super quiet intro on 'Aries' plays beautifully with only a couple of light static ticks, the clarity is stunning. The opening two verses and first chorus are 'as new' there is no other way to describe the quality of the audio here. It continues in the same way with no intrusion and this is easily a Mint- start to this classic album. Not bad for over 50 years old!
You then have complete silence in the dead wax which shows just how impressive the clarity is. 'In My Box' then plays with flawless precision and Mint is very much deserved. There is literally no 'background' not even a solitary dust tick. So far this really is audio of the highest calibre.
'By Your Bedside' plays to the same 'high end' standard with again no interference. From the acoustic intro to the final note on the flute the sonic quality cannot be faulted and all I detected were a couple of barely audible dust ticks. Mint
The classic 'Soldier Of The Flesh' plays with unbelievable clarity from the get go and continues in the same precise way. Daltrey's vocals are so 'clean' but then that applies to every section - a fine example of that is the percussive passage which builds into the crescendo section. There is no distortion and on the following verse I heard just one very light tick. The rest of the track plays to perfection. Mint- is fair.
'I Will Always Feel The Same' is 'as new' with no sign of any interference. Not one dust tick just pure Mint audio from start to finish.
'Free...' ends the side with STUNNING quality. You will not be disappointed if you had just purchased this record brand new yesterday not in 1970! Every vocal and instrumental section plays with sublime accuracy and there is no distortion on the top end despite it being the final track on the side. In particular the 'louder' end section plays with tremendous power and depth and of course no intrusion. Plus the fade out (as per all the others on this side) has no 'background' either.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 'choral' intro on 'Emily' plays with remarkable precision, there is just nothing that intrudes on the quality of the music, and I cannot overstate just what a fine start to S2 this is. The opening vocal is equal to this and it proceeds to play with imperious quality...and no interference. Each verse plays with wonderful clarity and the 'high octane' vocal sections also play with incredible audio. The very quiet 'Emily lay like silence...' verse again can be described 'as new' and to the end I cannot find one single negative. This is Mint I am 100% confident in saying.
'Chalk On The Wall' then plays with great quality with only a very minor hint of static that is in no way intrusive and still very much deserves a Mint- grade.
The acoustic intro on 'The Glorious House Of Arthur' is faultless and this standard is maintained throughout. There is no 'muddiness' to the sound i.e. the original sonic quality is still there whereby each note is crystal clear. Mint
'Monkey' keeps up the standard and plays with great precision and...no interference. Mint
The intro on 'Sunny Side Circus' plays with perfect clarity as does the rest of the track. When you find an album as pristine as this it does get difficult to describe the tracks in an individual way! Needless to say this is 'as new' from start to finish with clarity and depth of sound that is STUNNING!
The very quiet intro on 'Drummer Boy Of Shiloh' has no 'background' and the first verse and chorus are just as strong. From then on it pays with great precision and there are no ticks, clicks or pops. The final section section has just a hint of inner groove distortion but it is so minimal and perhaps I should not even mention it, it is hardly noticeable. The audio is still superb although I will grade as Near Mint just to be a little cautious.
In summary this first pressing plays to a fantastic standard that you rarely find today. Being such a collectable album it is generally found heavily played with marks etc but this is a FINAL UPGRADE time warp classic. As stated there is barely any spindle wear and the vinyl is immaculate and this is certainly reflected in the audio on offer here. When you consider the 'gentle' acoustic sound of much of the album you cannot help but be blown away by the STUNNING clarity, definition and warmth of the recording. This is clearly an album that has been hardly played and so well preserved down the years - the original sonic quality is still there for sure. It was only pressed in limited numbers, another reason why it is so collectable, and can only increase in value if it's immaculate condition is maintained. This is precisely why we listen to vinyl - when a relatively rare and collectable vinyl is found that is so clean and hardly played - well you just cannot replicate the sonic quality via any other medium for the reasons already stated, the clarity and warmth etc. The playback on both sides is in all honesty phenomenal and I am convinced the winning bidder will be just as impressed as I am!
The Gatefold & Swirl Inner
The Keef textured cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear and certainly nothing major. It still has its original shape and structure and clearly hasn't been handled very much. The top edges have some rubbing but not an excessive amount and the bottom edge of the back cover just has a little more. The wide spine is not compressed at all and remains 100% legible with only a small number of 'rub' spots and minimal wear on the corners. The right hand corners have only a little wear also and the opening edge is more or less perfect. The front cover is in lovely condition with only a couple of tiny specks and the back cover is just as good with just one very small white mark near the bottom edge. The inside of the gatefold is very clean with only a little spotting/fading along the top and bottom edges. A very strong example overall.
The original swirl inner (dated 0470) has no marking and only very minimal creasing. There are no side splits but there are a couple of tears on the central 'window' of one side. Very 'clean' tears though if you get my meaning.
