EXPANDED EDITION/REVISED. The brand new version of the most comprehensive guide to US psychedelic, garage and hippie rock ever published. It's been assembled with help from avid record collectors around the world and this edition covers a wider timeframe too. The book provides an A-Z listing of relevant artists with discographies, personnel details, band histories, comment on the music and, in some cases, includes the personnel recollections of band members. Individual entries also include details of reissues, appearances on compilations and album and 45 chart placings. There is also a rarity scale for albums.
For many this is the US rock bible. This version is considerably expanded from the earlier edition and is expected to be the definitive version. It is not possible to bind a bigger book than this!

Amazon review
After 5 years, Vernon Joynson's masterwork returns. With great credit to Max Waller for all his work in revising and updating the last volume of "Fuzz, Acid and Flowers Revisited." This 6th edition is a full 1,410 pages in length and weight a hefty 7.6 pounds. Pushing the limits of book binding and tightening the margins, an incredible amount of information has been amassed and is contained within. There may be the odd error here and there, but considering the depth and breadth of band entries on display this is far and away the definitive encyclopedia of American psych/garage music spanning an increased timespan 1963-1977. Entries are alphabetical, contain valuable info such as albums and singles released by the band with original label and catalog number, as well as biographical info on band members, and wonderfully useful information on reissues of the individual bands regarding cd or lp titles, release dates, and precious information as to what the reissue contains. While not pushing their personal tastes or preferences heavily, the authors, (Joynson credits Max Waller for his tireless work in updating the book) do a wonderful job of describing and critiquing the reissues. The book contains 1,376 pages of text, 22 pages of appendixes, and 12 pages of color photos of album artwork. This time around, only the Gear Fab and Sundazed catalogs are included. The Akarma label from Italy whose catalog was in the 5th edition of the work has been deleted, most probably due to the fact that Akarma, a division of Comet Records, in Italy, were indeed bootlegging band's works and avoiding paying royalties. Akarma releases are still contained within the text because in cases such as tripsichord Music Box the Akarma release was the only way to get all 14 tracks released by the band. Some entries from the 5th edition have been deleted due to binding restrictions. Max Stephen Waller's alter ego Max Myndblown already has a Facebook page up that will eventually include information on bands who either have never had an entry in previous editions of "Fuzz, Acid and Flowers" or have been deleted in favor of new entries or expanded entries for seminal bands such as the 13th Floor Elevators. This book is an absolute must for American psych and garage fans, and being limited to 2500 copies worldwide it may not be around long. A once advertised hardbound edition of the book which was to be limited edition, 1000 copies, faux leather with stamped numbers on each volume is no longer in the cards. Binding costs were considered prohibitive. This is not a book to read cover to cover, but rather one that you will find yourself consulting constantly for info on original releases, reissues, and compilations alike. It leaves you wondering about just one more band or musician. The data is reliable, the writing done with lots of tender loving care and is presented in wonderfully designed format. This may well be the last edition of this seminal work, but let us keep our fingers crossed that future editions will come to fruition. Word has it that Joynson presently has no plans of updating the UK companion to "Fuzz, Acid and Flowers," the equally important "Tapestry of Delights." Every fan of garage/psych should buy at least one copy of this book so that Joynson has greater incentive to update his 3 invaluable books, this being the most popular and most extensive of the titles. Take my word for it, you just open the book to any page, spot the name of a band or two that bring up memories, you peruse the entry which mentions release titles and dates that spring more memories, then the name of a related or comparable band pops up and the process continues time after time, hour after hour, day after day. The entries are often adorned by album artwork, and the cycle goes on and on. I can't thank Vernon Joynson, Max Waller, Ivor Truman, and Mark Fruille enough for all their efforts. When the book arrived yesterday my son texted me that it was "signed, sealed and delivered." He knows how much this book means to me. I gotta admit I was like a spoiled brat kid awaiting the books arrival. Since its arrival the book is a constant companion in my off work hours. And believe you me it will be for quite some time to come. Its really incredible to see entries for bands of my youth who were huge regionally but unheard of in other parts of the country. Just one anecdote, the owner of the largest record shop in town asked to take a look at "Fuzz, Acid etc." leafed through a few pages, got a smile on his face, turned the book toward me as he pointed out an entry for his cousin's band from the Chicago are who had released one single in their tenure. With the relatively low cost (the book can be obtained even more inexpensively from Amazon.co.uk) this book has a place on the Christmas list of any and all fans of US rock of the 60s and 70s. If stranded on an island this is the one music book I want to have in my possession. My advice to one and all, buy a copy of this book and show Vernon Joynson that the world would be a better place with updates of "Tapestry of Delights Revisited" and "Dreams, Fantasies, and Nightmares Revisited" the last volume covering garage/psych from Canada, the Netherlands, and other nations. In the meantime, thanks Vernon, Max, and all the others who invested long periods of their life to this endeavor. Job well done. Very, very well done.
