Description
Here is the exceptionally rare original 1969 UK mono 1st press of the extraordinary debut Genesis album, in lovely looking & sounding condition!
Original LK4990 un-boxed red Decca labels.
The very earliest ARL 8839 P-1B / ARL 8840 P-1B matrices.
Original red mono inner sleeve with 'Foreign Patents Pending' stamp, in superb condition.
Original lyric insert, usually missing, again in superb condition!
Perfectly white, uncreased & unmarked save for three tiny mottling marks, hardly noticeable.
Dated 1968.
(Please see photos re: the cover. I've tried to photograph it in as bright & unforgiving light as I possibly can, to make it's flaws perfectly visible.
In the hands it looks & feels superb & the flaws are less noticeable to the eye.)
Cover:
Gorgeous front-laminated cover, very glossy with slight laminate creasing on front.
Beautiful gold lettering front & back.
Light ring-wear to front & back.
No front edge-wear save for slightly worn corners.
The thin spine is perfectly clean & clear.
Opening flap has some wear but certainly not to the point of feathering.
Rear cover has the die-cut mono/stereo hole, in perfect shape.
Rear cover has some light creases, a light hairline scratch to the centre & lightly worn top & bottom edges.
Still very dark & flat, & looks great.
No marks, handwriting or other blemishes.
Some fingerprints are visible in the light on back cover,
I'll leave it to the buyer should they decide to clean it up in their own fashion.
Vinyl:
Heavy.
Both sides are flat, shiny & clean, with minimal spindle marks to the labels.
Both sides are unbanded.
The music itself sounds glorious, the bass in particular is hugely deep & rich.
The occasional phasing effects are crisp & spectacular.
(Definitely a quality lacking in the stereo mix, in my opinion.)
There is very little surface crackle, silence between tracks except for a couple of occasions where it can be quietly detected.
The quiet passages of the music sound superb.
The background is like a black velvet blanket, enveloping the music so the instruments sound clear as a bell!
Acoustic guitar, voice & strings are particularly well served.
There is no hint of distortion at all, the record retains it's integrity throughout.
Side One:
There are some VERY soft clicks for a few seconds during track 1 & the end of track 4 into track 5.
The start of track 6 also has some very soft clicks.
These clicks are most certainly in the background, the music is in the foreground throughout & sounds incredible.
Side Two:
Beautiful! Some VERY faint crackle between tracks 2 & 3 but otherwise fantastic, plays through perfectly & aches to be played loud!
The quiet passages play without a hitch on both sides.
"Listen and cast your mind into the sound spectrum" indeed.
It goes without saying really, but this is very highly recommended!
