GE Superadio III AM/FM Radio, model 7-2887A

For auction is a GE Superadio III, model 7-2887A, with original box in perfect operating order and superb cosmetic condition.

Performance features on the Superadio III include varactor-tuned RF stages on both AM & FM; a 7-7/8" (200 mm) ferrite loopstick AM antenna, 38" whip FM antenna; 7 tuned IF circuits + ceramic IF filters; multistage active AVC system; and switchable FM AFC. These features make the Superadio III have unbelievable sensitivity, sharp selectivity, and the ability to receive weak stations with nearly the same volume as strong ones. The Superadio III also has impressive audio, due to loudness compensation circuitry, separate Bass & Treble controls and a well-matched audio amplifier that drives a two-way speaker system that consists of a 6" speaker (woofer) and 2" tweeter. There is an AM Audio Bandwidth Selector switch to opt for reception or fidelity advantages. For maximum AM selectivity, the Bandwidth switch is set to "Narrow". It can be set to the "Wide" setting if improved high audio frequency response on AM is desired at the expense of selectivity. FM selectivity is best when the AFC switch is "Off". There are three screw terminals on the back of the set for external AM and FM antenna/ground connections. In most cases the sensitivity of this radio will make external antennas unnecessary. The radio plays from 6 x D batteries or AC power. The AC is automatically connected when plugged in. The power cord stores neatly inside the radio when it is not in use. Of course, like all GE radios, the layout design is user-friendly and pleasant to operate. The station selector knob is on the right side of the radio, and all other controls are on the front. A sturdy folding handle also makes it easy to carry around.

This radio plays very well on both AM and FM with great sensitivity and gutsy full range audio response. It has been carefully tested at different frequencies on both bands to assure optimum reception performance.

The cabinet is in excellent condition with no notable flaws. The battery box is free of corrosion. The FM whip antenna is complete and straight. The original box (a flap on the box is torn) and packing manual for the Superadio III is included with this auction.
