Description

ANNOUNCED, "THE WHISTLING COON BY GEORGE W. JOHNSON" . A 10 INCH MONARCH  DISC  NO. 582 1904 .I grade this disc at E-- only because it plays so well, no real ticking or anything like that , george w. johnson was the first african american  to make records ( starting for edison about 1891) and was the first black man to become famous for his records .  there is some surface noise but it does not detract at all from the song which has a great ragtime finish ! .many collectors of really old records picked his cylinders and discs up early  on so not many can be found these days .  please check my other items as there will be posted other brown wax cylinders and early discs.Shipped with USPS Media Mail. thanks !
