This four-LP set captures a legendary Grateful Dead performance, a show that band archivist Dick Latvala considered the pinnacle of their Spring 1977 tour. Even with eight songs omitted from the original CD release, the setlist here is a treasure trove of Dead classics and rarities, showcasing the band's improvisational prowess and their ability to create transcendent live experiences. A phenomenal 'Help on the Way'/'Slipknot!'/'Franklin's Tower' sequence follows a definitive rendition of 'Sugaree' and a terrific 'The Music Never Stopped', with Phil Lesh's bass leading the way. But the true magic lies in the extended medley that spans sides E, F, and G. After the rarely performed 'Sunrise', a sequence of 'Estimated Prophet', 'Eyes of the World', 'Wharf Rat', 'Terrapin Station', and 'Morning Dew' takes the listener on a journey through the heart of the Dead's improvisational universe. Jerry Garcia's soaring guitar work on 'Morning Dew' reaches breathtaking heights, showing true virtuosity and the band's ability to create moments of pure sonic bliss.
