Grateful Dead Playing In The Band
Lyrics by Robert Hunter and music composed by Bob Weir, “Playing In The Band” has been a favorite staple of Deadheads since it first appeared on the live 1971 album known as Skull Fuck. The band played it over 500 times in concert and invariably used the song as a vehicle for improvisation, often times extending it into jams of twenty minutes or more. Which brings us to this particular LP, er long-player. The song’s performance on 21 May 1974 at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle has been cited as the longest uninterrupted performance of a single song in the Grateful Dead's history, clocking in at 46 minutes and 32 seconds. This rendition was released as a Limited Edition (7,400 copies) 180g vinyl album with half of the song on each side of the record. It was released on Black Friday Record Store Day on November 23, 2018. This is a SEALED promotional copy (note marker strike through bar code, pictured).
