Human Instinct – “Stoned Guitar” LP (orig. New Zealand Allied International Records STEREO ARBS 107)

Release date: December 1970.  Recording dates: September - November 1970.

On offer here is an ULTRA RARE original NEW ZEALAND issue of the second album by HUMAN INSTINCT, which included MAURICE GREER (drums & lead vocals) and lead guitarist BILLY TK (a musician often touted as the M?ori JIMI HENDRIX).  “Stoned Guitar” is considered by some critics as one of their finest albums.

Half the album tracks are cover versions including MECCA’s “Black Sally” (pre-KAHVAS JUTE, Sydney group), JOHN KONGOS’ “Tomorrow I'll Go” (listed as “Tomorrow”) and RORY GALLAGHER’s “Railway and Gun” (originally performed by Irish rock trio, TASTE). 

There are some incredible ACID ROCK moments on this LP and BILLY TK is in fine form.  I’ve included YouTube links to a few of my favourite LP cuts below!

Cover:

front: VG to VG++ matt finish with glossy appearance: ring-wear (outer rim - mainly top & bottom), creasing (insignificant along spine & bottom seam / minor: left of centre & left of opening edge), scuffing (along spine, top & bottom seams), NO SEAM SPLITS, moderate surface rubbing.  Almost impossible to find without ring-wear!

back: EX+ matt finish—flipback: insignificant ring-wear (outer rim – extremely hard to see), very minor creasing (along opening edge), barest minimum of surface rubbing.

Record:

visual: VG to VG++ beautiful glossy sheen—some hairlines & light surface scuffs on each side (nothing deep, but the disc is lightly scuffed) (seen under strong light).  I have received albums from dealers in the past graded EX that look worse than this!

audible: EX sounds superb despite some completely insignificant underlying static (mainly heard between tracks).  DEFINITELY NO JUMPS or SKIPS - played from beginning to end.  A HIGHLY ENJOYABLE LISTENING EXPERIENCE!

labels: moderate spindle wear.
