Haul Ar Yr Eira. Pererin. Original Gwerin LP. Incredibly Rare. Exc Cond.


Bought on 8th July 1980 at Oriel bookshop, Cardiff for £4.25 and in my collection since. A fire destroyed most copies of this record making it highly collectable now.


This is the original Gwerin recording (an offshoot of Siop y Werin run by Dyfrig Thomas in Llanelli).


Pererin's first record, it is an amazing mash up of folk, folk rock and pysch folk with prog and ambient moments.


Much has been written about how influential it has been but at the time Pererin were deeply uncool in Wales but very successful abroad.  The album betrays those Breton/"Celtic" folk rock stylings, as well as Arfon Wyn (worst moustache in Welsh music)'s prog history with Yr Atgyfodiad (cited as an influence by Super Furries). Also notable is Charlie Goodall's more ambient folk, spiritual input (he is still making music I believe).


But what cuts through this record and puts it right out there as something else is Nest Llywelyn's ethereal voice lifting the whole album to another level. She is described as a "guest member" and did not appear on their second LP, Teithgan (see separate listing). Nest was a member of the rock group Brân and is the mother of contemporary Welsh singer Elin Fflur.


Incredibly, the whole album does hang together as a journey into an alternative Welsh folk rock universe which respects traditional music whilst bringing to it styles and influences not seen before.


This original record is rarely seen for sale.


Vinyl in excellent condition. Test played. Sleeve has some slight discolouration so VG. No damage or wear however. Original lyric insert. Gwerin photocopied catalogue also.
