Homer Rodeheaver was a well-known evangelist preacher who releases many dozens of sacred songs and sermons; then also, quietly, on the side, produced a series of racially inflammatory records for the Ku Klux Klan. Now known as the “K-Series”, this KKK line would eventually be handled by Gennett, but the first few were produced in Rodeheaver’s Chicago studios. This is recording #3, on his “Special” record label, named in the fine print as a “personal recording” although it did see some small distribution.

This record is being sold as an historical artifact. Recordings such as this are a hard reminder of the ugly and blatant racism of the time period. Relics like this are a stark reminder of how terrible humanity can become, and they are invaluable teaching tools to help all of us learn from mistakes of the past. In the words of George Santayana: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

The record grades to V on the VJM scale (or VG on the Goldmine scale) with a only a few light surface marks on each side that may produce very soft surface noise and just a couple of short light needle-drags that play-through with a quiet tick, and one very faint hairline crack that runs for about one-inch from the edge that plays through with a quiet tick (see photo above, it is hard to see was very difficult to photograph).
