JAZZ CONTRASTS: Kenny Dorham with Sonny Rollins rare Riverside jazz vinyl LP
For sale is beautiful copy of the rare Kenny Dorham album Jazz Contrasts. This record also features Sonny Rollins, Hank Jones, Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, and Betty Glamman. This is the original 1957 Riverside issue with catalogue number RLP 12-239.
Based on Goldmine standards, I would describe the vinyl as being in excellent condition. This is the blue label version of the record, which seems to be much more rare than the white label release, in my experience. I’ve listened to it once with headphones and it sounded beautiful, with little surface noise audible in the quiet parts. The only flaws I noticed were a very light, repetitive pop that affects about two minutes of track 2, and a few light clicks on side two. Both of these issues could probably be corrected with a proper cleaning.
The sleeve, likewise, is in excellent condition. There is very light wear around the edges and a tiny “May” stamp on the upper left corner of the back cover, but, overall, this is a gorgeous copy of this hard to find jazz classic. Even the original wax inner sleeve is included and in nice shape (though I have placed the LP in a new paper sleeve)! I really don’t think you’re likely to find one like this any time soon, so don’t miss out.
