Description
Extremely hard to find jazz 10” 33rpm LP on the UK Tempo label, catalogue number L.A.P. 3, Dizzy Reece Quintet’s ‘A New Star’, Tubby Hayes and his outfit featured on two tracks.
The front-laminated, flipback sleeve has some laminate loss to opening edge, corner wear and creasing, light ringwear and some edge browning. There is also a small punch hole in the sleeve (and the inner sleeve and Record), which I think is an import indicator, as there is also a sticker on the back for a record shop in Limassol. The sleeve is still very presentable, and grades Good plus.
The vinyl plays very well, with loud mono audio reproducing a superbly recorded set. Each side has some light surface marks and what look like ‘under the groove’ manufacturing lines, with a few other light hairlines. There is audible background crackle at the start of each side, between bands and during quieter passages, but the audio is so strong that it is not so noticeable throughout most of the record. However, it is louder in some parts more than others. No skips, no jumps and a fabulous listen!
Taking into account a visual inspection and playing quality together, the vinyl grades VG to VG+ overall.
All in all, The is is a great playing copy of a very scarce 50s jazz classic with a legendary ‘Brit-Jazz’ pedigree. The only copy I have ever seen in 40 plus years of record collecting!
