The Jimi Hendrix Experience ?– Axis: Bold As Love

This record is in fair+ condition. It has loads of spindle marks visible on the labels but no pen marks, scuffs or severe fading. There is minor wear around the centre holes but these are not overly loose or worn. Overall the labels are clean, bright and in decent shape all round but for the large amount of spindle marks. 

As for the vinyl itself, both sides show clear and obvious signs of heavy use. There is loads of light surface lines to both sides and also the some scratches, scuff and marks. Overall the visual appearance is not ideal and it clearly shows its age.

I play tested the record(on a good quality, revealing system) and it played ok but did have a few issues. I still enjoyed it all but as I say there is a few issues and it is far from perfect. It lays flat on the deck with no major movement in the arm upon playing, but I noted the following.

Side 1: Crackle in quiet parts and faintly throughout. No stand out clicks, but the odd splutter and noise. No sticks or jumps and overall an enjoyable listen but with some surface noise caused by the large amount of surface lines. I have noted this side as a solid VG audibly.

Side 2: Crackle in quiet parts, run in, between tracks and faintly throughout. No sticks but one skip in track 3 caused by 3 small marks. These also cause a few audible ticks on my system, but could well cause further jumps on others. This track is the main downfall of the lp with the skip and audible ticks occurring in the early parts. It does pass fairly quickly however as the marks that cause the issue are small. The rest of the side plays as per side 1 with the occasional noise, splutter but nothing massively disruptive and no further skips. I grade this side as G audibly due to the skip(possibly skips) and general interference throughout.

So overall a well used and not perfect copy of this classic lp. However despite this my system which is revealing and of good quality did not find the play test horrific, and I actually enjoyed listening to it. It does have the skip(possibly a couple more depending on system) in track 3 side 2, but otherwise it is just crackles really. I think a grade of fair+ is more than, well fair, and overall it plays decent enough. This would be a great 'filler' or starter copy as it can still be enjoyed although as I say it far from perfect.

The sleeve is in good+ condition. It has rubbing and wear to the edges and corners(pics), but they are solid enough with no actual splits as yet. There are no major tears but there is wear to the record entry edges with small minor tears showing. There are no scuffs anywhere but there is laminate creasing to both sides and also mild ring marks showing. Inside the gatefold is decent but has the track listings written in pen on both sides(top centre area). Jimi himself has also been coloured in, as has his shirt unfortunately. There is also some creasing in the gatefold, especially to the flipbacks and corner areas. Overall an iconic sleeve which is still solid enough but has clear signs of its age and a few other issues. I have tried to describe the sleeve as best I can but please study the pictures provided to gain as much information as possible as to its condition.

It contains a brand new plain white replacement inner as the original was missing.

It unfortunately does not contain its insert.

The record will be packaged in cardboard stiffeners and bubble wrapped thoroughly when dispatched. It will also be sent in a brand new protective plastic sleeve, and within 24hrs of receiving payment to ensure swift delivery.
