JIMI HENDRIX 'ELECTRIC LADYLAND' 1968 UK TRACK 'BLUE' 1st OF THE 1st.
This is an original MASSIVELY RARE 1968 earliest UK Stereo 1st pressing on the TRACK record label with a fully laminated E J DAY Ltd. gatefold sleeve with 1st issue 'BLUE TEXT' and the all important LARGER pictures of Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The RAREST POSSIBLE 1ST PRESSING of this seminal recording.
There is a slight interesting anomaly with this pressing. It looks like whoever was in charge of pressing the labels must have been smoking something as you can see. (I have been seriously collecting for over 15 years and seen a fair few of these coming and go - I have never seen this error before) The music is pressed CORRECTLY, The Track listing is also CORRECT- YET - see below
Disc 1: - 613008A/1 B/1
Side A - Labels / Side A Sibe B - Labels / Side D
Disc 2: - 613009A/1 B/1
Side A - Labels / Side B Sibe B - Labels / Side C
To reiterate, the tracklisting is correct, it just mentions the wrong "Side" - I can only think this is a very early pressing error that must have been corrected quite quickly. I know for a fact the previous owner of this record brought it the day it was released.
There are four things to note about the first pressings.
1. They were pressed on thicker vinyl than later ones, consequently they were better equipped to stand the test of time.
2. All four sides have matrix numbers ending in number one. These are found on the run out grooves on each side.
3. On first issues the bracketed catalogue numbers with a letter on the left side of the label are printed upside down.
4. On first issues there is no set number printed below the stereo logos on the right side of the label as there is on later pressings.
THE VINYL
Record 1 Side 1 - Excellent - No marks or scuffs - some spindle wear. Side 2 - Excellent - A couple of scuffs from the sleeve but these have NO impact to the sound at all - Some spindle wear
Record 2 Side 1 - Excellent - a couple of scuffs from the sleevse but these have NO impact to the sound at all - Barely any spindle wear Side 2 - Excellent - No marks or scuffs - some spindle wear.
Both records retain a lovely gloss and sound absolutely fantastic through my stereo which makes me wonder WHY am I parting with it. Just played Voodoo Chile (slight return) - WALLOP, tones jumping out of the speaker through the valve amp. I have tilted the records to the light and there is minimal play. I try to grade conservatively, a lot of other people would say these should grade MINT, but I think Excellent is fair. They sound great and look nice too.
THE E J DAY Ltd. SLEEVE.
The iconic naked sleeve is in pretty good shape, there is some storage wear that you can see in the photos and and some light feathering but I think all in all its survived quite well. I have tried to capture as many photos as I can. Happy to supply more if you like.
There is faint record impressions (faint!) and no rips of tear, but I think given its current condition I would grade this VG++
All in all a fantastic addition to any serious vinyl collection and a true BLUE edition of this the much sought after HOLY GRAIL of Hendrix albums. A real collector's item. Don`t let this one pass you by!
I have set a reasonable reserve to cover my costs, and I will not accept any buy it now offers.
