Welcome! Here is a UK first press of the Jimi Hendrix Experience Electric Ladyland (Track 613 008 / 9). It has the typical white text on the inside of the gatefold sleeve, and has scratched-out matrix numbers on Side A, indicating a very early press.

I have researched this scratched-out matrix number issue, and it seems that this was done in more than one way. On my example, only Side A had the erroneous 613009 A // 1 matrix. It is marked as follows: the first four digits, 6130, are unmarked, but the fifth digit, 0, is scratched out (even though 0 was correct) and has 17 etched above it. Next, the 9 is scratched out, as well as a blank space that followed it. Last, the correct 8 is etched in what had been another blank space. Thereafter, you have the A // 1, plus this sequence: 16901 8.

The remaining matrix numbers are:

Side B: 613009 A∇2 420 11 12
Side C: 613009 B // 2 420 11 3
Side D: 613008 B∇2 420 1 2 9

Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?

Sleeve: The sleeve grades VG+++. Ringwear is evident on both front and back, but is not bad. My photos slightly overexaggerate this wear, but better over than under for you, the buyer. There are sporadic minor creases to the front and back cover laminate, with one in the upper left on the back cover perhaps the most noticeable – again, not awful. The inside gatefold shows only a couple of laminate creases and has a terrific gloss. (Oh, and the sleeve still makes that nice crinkly sound when opened!) The edges are all quite strong. The laminate is beginning to crack slightly along the spine. Minor corner wear at both the top and bottom of the spine looks like it has been darkened with a marker; this was done well and is noticeable only on close inspection, but must be mentioned.

Vinyl: The vinyl conservatively grades Excellent+. The vinyl looks close to pristine, with no scratches, marks, not even any hairline traces. It plays perfectly on my system, with nothing more than the most minimal surface noise ever noted.

Labels: The matte black Track labels all show spindle tracking, but are otherwise excellent.

Inner Sleeves: This album has early and correct plastic-lined inners, but they are likely not the original ones; one is dated 0670 and the other is dated 0672. Both inners are whole, but show a fair amount of discoloration and have a mildewy smell. (I actually like that smell, but you may not.)

And, in the end: This example is ideal for someone looking for a solid, everyday version of this album at (presumably) an affordable price. It plays perfectly on my system, and has only average cover wear. I bought this from the noted UK eBay seller xxxrecords, who graded this album VG+++ throughout, and that is exactly how I would describe it.
