Recorded at the Van Gelder studio on February 7, 1963, this Blues Note session features Jimmy Smith at the organ, accompanied by Lou Donaldson on alto, Quentin Warren on guitar and Donald Bailey on drums. SIDE 1: WHEN MY DREAMBOAT COMES HOME; PORK CHOP and MATILDA, MATILDA. SIDE 2: CAN HEAT; PLEASE SEND ME SOMEONE TO LOVE; JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH ME and TRUST IN ME. The address on the label reads “NEW YORK USA” and the address on the record jacket is “43 West 61st St, New York 23”. There is an “Ear” stamped in both sides of the blank vinyl, as well as “VAN GELDER”. This is a MONO recording.

I’ve graded the vinyl as EX and the record jacket as M- for the following reasons. The vinyl is clean of any marks on both sides of the LP. There are no signs of wear in and around the spindle hole. The label on SIDE 1 was not properly printed, as you can see, as the ink is faded on the left side. That’s the way it came when I bought it. I guess they were running out of ink! Otherwise, I would have graded the vinyl as M-. The record jacket is in near mint condition with nearly no sign of wear on the seams, cover or liner notes. Too bad about the label!
