Jimmy Smith -- Root Down -- Verve V6-8806 1972
Here is a true rare groove classic. One of Smith’s funkiest records best known for the Beastie Boys sampling the title cut for their own "Root Down". Though "Root Down" is the best known song on this album, it’s not the only great one, just about everything on this record is upbeat and funky, only "After Hours" is slow tempo and bluesy. Every other song is uptempo and real damn funky. But the record belongs to "Root Down" which is so funky it’s silly, you completely understand why the Beastie Boys would sample so much of the song. Promo copy, kept in stellar NM shape. Rare to find a gorgeous copy like this.
Cover/Record: VG/NM Promo copy with the DJ sticker on the back, the cover has a little ring wear and a seam split from the top right corner in about 4 inches. The record itself is near mint and gorgeous. A beautiful copy!
